Water and oil based primer
There are two main types of paint primers. Oil-based primer and water-based primer. So what is the difference between water and oil based primer?
The main difference between both products is the primer base. Oil-based primers contain natural or synthetic oils in the primer coating to keep the paint flowing. On the other hand, water-based primers contain water.
Because water-based primers use water, the primer coat evaporates and dries faster than an oil-based primer coat.
Water-based primers are suitable for water-based paints and paint jobs that require preparation. Oil-based primers are most suitable for enamel paints and paint jobs where sealing, durability and water resistance are required.
